How about that, eh? Now before you get all excited and think that not only is he a mathematical wunderkind, he is also some sort of kitchen god, please know that I was here the whole time and had to physically teach him how to peel a potato. No joke. Yes, for all his skills and talents in the world of Riemannian manifolds and phenomena in high dimensions, my boy didn't know how to make a simple soup. And, seeing as I am visiting Germany for a little while and will be leaving Banoo to fend for himself, I thought I ought to teach him to make a simple veggie version.
He loves chunky soups and stews, and picked all the ingredients himself to make a healthy, toot-inducin', veg-laden beast. While I prefer to purée my soup to have a thick potage-y type mess, Banoo likes the "veg-in-flavoured-water" style. So I let him decide. After sniffing all the herbs and spices in the cupboard, he decided on thyme, bay leaves, garlic salt, pepper, and a little bit of regular salt. He then carefully cut up the veg and bunged it all in with some veg stock to let it slowly cook for an hour. Success! He now knows how to make an easy soup (and how to peel veg!) and hopefully when I return from Germany he is not anorexically skinny as I normally find him when I return from being somewhere. He forgets to eat, y'see. Which might just have been an excuse to disguise his lack of peeling veg skills, now that I look back. Silly lad.
