In my last post I mentioned briefly the cardamom bun we shared in a tiny café in a pink villa. I did not do it justice. It was seriously the best bun I have ever eaten in my life. I don't know if the brisk sea air, combined with the exertion of trekking over rocks and hills all day made the coffee and bun combo the most heavenly thing to cross my palate ever or what, but they were great. The perfect ending to a day exploring this new place we call home, however temporary or transient that may be.
If you find yourself in Helsinki, for whatever reason, and fancy a little trip into the past, hop on the ferry, scoot over to Suomenlinna, and pop into Café Vanille. It's in an old, crumbly pink villa, there're about 3 tables packed inside the tiny interior, and a few more on the old front porch. The coffee is great. The pulla (buns) are splendid, and the atmosphere is charmingly shabby chic. Lovely!
