6 degrees! SIX! We were lured outside by my (duplicitous) iPhone weather report and decided to drag the flat-tyred bikes to the shop to fix them up for our first ride this year. We (and our tyres) were PUMPED. Ba doom tish.
Fast-forward 15 bone-numbing minutes (thanks to the fierce Siberian wind that was blowing my snug bobble hat off my head) and we were ready to call it a day. Turns out the 6-degree reading is, I believe, some warm living room somewhere? Because it was maybe plus one- two at most. Fucking COLD. Thankfully we packed a thermos of tea so we soldiered on.
We cycled (at high velocity) around Töölöö Bay, and stopped (briefly) to look at the lovely old villas of Linnunlaulua (which I believe means "bird song" and is also really fun to try and pronounce. Basically, just omit sounds like you've just came from a dental appointment and you nail it.). Sadly, since all the birds were dead from hypothermia at this point, it was very silent. The bay was frozen. We cycled on.
We stopped for another tea break on the Southwest coast of the city, but even the tea wasn't warming us up anymore. The sea there was unfrozen and glittering in the sun, but we cut it short and headed home to warm baths and a cup of hot broth each. I'm hoping by May we may be able to attempt another ride. Cross your fingers for us poor souls up here, guys.
